Many individuals with visual impairment do not seek out or maintain oral health care, a global public health concern. Meanwhile, dental students feel they lack training to manage special needs patients on biopsychosocial levels. Objective Structured ... Clinical Examinations (OSCE) can enhance student’s relational and communicative practices needed for optimum clinical care for such patients. This retrospective IRB-approved scholarship of teaching and learning (SOTL) research project involved the comparative evaluation of communicative and behavioral effectiveness of 2nd-year (D2) dental students at IUSD in a 2019 face-to-face (FTF) (n=105) vs a 2020 virtual OSCE (VOSCE) (n=105). Verbal qualitative standardized patient (SP) feedback was evaluated using a Braun & Clarke thematic analysis model; overall rubric scores were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to determine significant difference across groups. Overall, first time pass rates were high for both FTF (94.3%; 13.87 mean rating) and for VOSCEs (90.5%; 13.59 mean rating). Mothers on the Rise is an organization founded under the Fairbanks School of Public Health's Grassroots Maternal Child Health Initiative. Mothers on the Rise works to support incarcerated mothers as they transition out of incarceration, with the goal ... goal of improving outcomes for both mother and child. During my time with Mothers on the Rise, I worked to transcribe interviews from staff and mothers as a part of a storytelling project the organization is producing. The goal of this project is to raise awareness of the program and its impact, while working to erase the stigma associated with incarceration for mothers and challenge people's preconceived notions about previously incarcerated mothers. I created 4 videos (2 videos for each clinic) that shows “Clients of the Week” as well as just a video collage over the entire semester. The first clinic is the Motor Activity that occurs on Saturday's and the Ability Fitness Clinic that occurs on Tu ... on Tuesday's. Throughout the clinics as staff we create certificates for the clients to keep up their motivation. We took pictures and videos of their progress and to update their families via social media.
